If you want to go to one of the universities in the Netherlands, there are some things you need to know. If you are not from Netherlands, you need to know about the culture, language and even geography before you are ready to go there.
Many People Use Bikes
When you are in Netherland, do not be surprised if you find that so many people use as their transportation. People not only use bikes to go from one place to another place, they also use bikes to do groceries and even transport their furniture like a couch or piano.
Fortunately, Netherlands also has multi-story parking garages that are dedicated for bikes. Another good thing is that in Netherlands, paths and lanes for bikes are well-established, so you do not need to worry about getting in an accident with cars or motorbikes.
Dutch People Know English
If you are not confident with your Dutch language, you do not need to worry since everyone in Netherlands basically is able to speak English. So if you are lost, you can ask anyone for direction without having to worry they will not understand you.
Of course, you can always learn a little bit of Dutch before you go to Netherland. After all, it will be a shame if you do not learn Dutch at all when you study in Netherland.
Getting Perfect Grades are Hard
Every professor has their own standards and priorities, so you should not expect to get perfect grades for every course you take. Not to mention that in the Dutch education system, getting high grades is considered unattainable. So, if you get an 8 out of 10, that is a good grade. If you want to get 9 or 10, you need to work really hard.
Another thing you need to remember is that in Netherland, academic buildings are usually mixed with other buildings. It means that the universities usually do not have dorms for students. So if you want to study at one of the universities in the Netherlands, you need to look for your own housing.
